Broken blinds can be an annoyance, especially when they aren’t fulfilling their purpose and leave your window looking shabby. We can’t avoid the effects of wear and tear over time, but some problems arise more frequently than others.
Common Problems with Blinds:
- Broken tilter mechanism
- Worn or broken lifting cords
- Broken or damaged blind slats
- Electric blinds won’t move
- Roman blinds aren’t folding neatly
- Venetian blinds won’t stay open
- Roller blinds won’t stay open or seem loose
- The blind mechanism is stiff to open and close
Another reason why your blinds need repairs is that you may have installed the wrong type of blind in the first place. Some blinds work well in moisture-prone areas, while others don’t. Some blinds are more suitable for homes with small children and pets than others. But, all that doesn’t matter now. What matters right now is that your blinds are repaired or replaced to restore light control and privacy.
What to Do When Your Blinds Are Broken
Depending on how major or minor your problem is, the first thing you can do is to try and fix it yourself. You might not be able to replace a broken tilter mechanism, but you can check to see if the cords that allow the tilting action may have gotten tangled somehow. If that’s the case, your tilter mechanism isn’t broken and you can do repairs yourself. You will have to remove the blind from its brackets.
A damaged or broken slat doesn’t mean you need to replace the entire blind. Most manufacturers add an extra slat at the bottom of your blinds to use for future repairs. To replace the slat, remove the caps of the bottom slat to display the cords. Unthread the cord that moves through the slats until you reach the damaged/broken one. Gently slide out the slat and replace it with the new one. Rethread the cord, knot the end and replace the caps.
If your roller blind won’t stay open it suggests that the spring is coiled too tightly or has become uncoiled. In which case, you will need help from a professional such as Curtain Master to repair it.
Should your electrical blinds fail to respond to your remote control, the first thing to do is to check your batteries. Once you’ve established that the batteries aren’t the problem, you can move onto the next step — check if the blinds are plugged in properly. You could also try another remote to rule out the possibility of a broken remote. If you’ve checked all the electrical elements and it’s still not working, it’s time to get help from the team at Curtain Master.
More often than not, blind problems are a job better left to professionals. Sometimes blinds are overly worn, in which case you’ll require new ones.
